This kentucky style, slot entrance bluebird house is designed to thwart sparrows. Bluebirds prefer a slot entrance to the standard circular hole--sparrows prefer the opposite. In addition, sparrows don't like a shallow box and bluebirds don't seem to mind. This box is only 5" deep but if sparrows still continue to be a problem, a wooden insert is included to reduce the depth even more. Constructed out of Eastern White Pine. An included, 1.5" thick, pine block can be situated within the home to shrink its depth, discouraging sparrows while tailoring this unit even more to the roosting habits of bluebirds. Situated atop the roof is a black, plastic grid to prevent large bits of detritus as well as predatory threats. Use the included white, plastic cap to cover this opening, employing it instead as a shallow dish for mealworms or other caloric snacks. Triangular corners just below the gaps of the roof facilitate proper air flow and temperature regulation, and a metal latch allows you to lift the dwelling's front panel upward for regular nest checks and cleanings. This abode's rough hewn interior gives ample grip to nestlings looking to navigate out of the house, and this naturally beautiful item will weather to a striking gray tone with time and exposure to outdoor conditions for a charming transformation.
