This Kentucky style, slot entrance bluebird house is designed to thwart sparrows. Research from the University of Kentucky found that bluebirds will readily use a slot entry, while sparrows prefer a round hole. This same research also found that bluebirds do not mind a shallow home, although sparrows will leave a nest that is not deep. Thus, these striking homes use all this data to create durable and welcoming bluebird roosts.

A 4" long and 1.25" high, rectangular entry on each house invites bluebirds, and not sparrows, to nest, while the sloped and overhanging roof protects the units from rain. An included, 1.5" thick wooden block may be placed inside each home, decreasing the depth to further deter sparrows. Add an included, Coveside Blowfly Inhibitor Screen to each home to protect the nests from parasites, helping nestlings remain safe and healthy. The 0.75" thick, eastern white pine construction of the homes keeps them nicely ventilated, along with the gaps beneath the roof overhang in the top corners of each piece. Each corner on the base of the homes also has a gap for draining any water, aiding the nest in remaining dry. The front panel of each lifts upward for nest checks, while the metal latch here keeps it securely closed when in use. Attach an included Mounting Adapter to the back or bottom of each home using its included hardware, and display these roosts on the included Best 5-Piece Bluebird House Poles.
