Before pottery, glassblowing, metalworking and plastic - there was the "gourd" - Mother Nature's pottery. A plant so revered for its functional purposes, it is no wonder that it was thought to have mystical properties. These beautiful field grown bird adobes originate in Pennsylvania and are handcrafted by skilled Amish artisans.
The Acorn Gourd Birdhouse is handpainted in vibrant and simple colors. This birdhouse is made from two gourds to resemble an acorn. We use quality outdoor paints and urethane sealant to protect it from the elements. These hard-shelled bird house gourds will provide many years of service with proper care and maintenance. Included is a leather strap for hanging. Each bird house has 3 holes on the bottom for drainage.
Natural gourds vary in individual size and shape to some degree which add to the uniqueness of each item. Not only are they a functional bird house, but can also be used as an indoor decoration. They make wonderful gifts!
The types of birds these homes attract include Bluebirds, Purple Martins, Chickadees, Nuthatches, Finches, Crested Flycatchers, Golden-Fronted Woodpeckers, Red-Headed Woodpeckers, Carolina Wrens, Swallows, Hairy Woodpeckers and other species.

Dimensions: approximately 6 x 6"; 1-1/4" entrance hole. Perfect size for titmice, nuthatch, wrens, downy woodpeckers and other smaller songbirds.
Tip: Keeping your gourd birdhouse in the shade, taking indoors in the winter and spraying it with an outdoor polyurethane will make it last for years.
