A suncatcher is a decoration typically made of stained or clear glass, which reflects natural outdoor lighting. Suncatchers can add a hint of color and aesthetic interest to any room in your home that has access to natural lighting from a window. To display your suncatcher for optimal effect, you will need to hang it in a window.

How To Hang Suncatchers & Glass Panels In A Window

Many people use suction cups to hang suncatchers and stained art glass panels in a window, but it is not recommended. When the temperature of your window warms (especially windows that get direct sunlight), the small amount of air between the suction cup and the window will expand. This breaks the seal and causes the suncatcher or stained art glass panel to fall. Even when the window does not receive direct sunlight, a suction cup may hold for quite some time, but it will eventually give out, and you may lose your piece to breakage.

To hang your suncatcher or stained art glass panel securely, we highly recommend using a small cup hook in the wood trim (casing) above the window, and hanging the suncatcher or stained glass panel with a fishing line or a chain. If you choose to use fishing line, please remember to replace the line annually, as the sun's UV light will cause filament line to become brittle over time and lose its strength and durability. Ideally, we recommend the use of a chain for hanging both suncatchers and stained art glass panels.
