Luxurious Buffalo Hair Nesting Material for Your Wild Bird Friends!

For over 5,000 years, wild bird populations enjoyed an important relationship with bison. Then in the late 1800’s, the world nearly lost the mighty bison, when the massive herds were reduced to less than 100 head. Not only were the hides and meat gone, wild birds lost one of their most desirable nesting materials. BisonNest gives wild birds a new way to gather their favorite nesting material!

“Its great insulation value may help egg and nestling survival, always an issue, particularly for ground nesting birds…”

Bison Ball - 4 inch refillable metal cage ball stuffed with the softest all-natural bison hair. Hang your Bison Ball wherever birds can find it. Made in the USA!

Bison Nest - Luxurious Bison Hair Nesting Material For Wild Birds

The BisonNest Story

Through the efforts of a few forward thinking ranchers and early conservationists, the few remaining bison were saved and they began a slow, but remarkable recovery. Unfortunately, the birds were still without one of their preferred and traditional nesting materials.

The good news is this isn’t the end of the story!

The Duncan family has been raising Bison on their northern Colorado, Diamond Tail Ranch, for over 25 years. Through their interaction with and love of the bison, they are marketing several products that support the animal and the industry. From tender, delicious meat, to organic plant food products for your garden, the Diamond Tail Ranch continues to be a pioneer in the renaissance of the America Bison.

We are now proud to introduce our newest line of products, BisonNest! Bison can once again be the source of nature’s premium and preferred nesting material.

In a 2004 study of wild bird nests conducted by Bryan R. Coppedge at the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve, Osage County, Oklahoma, he observed that. “Bison hair was the most prominent zoological nesting material used” and “At least one nest of 13 bird species and 42% of all nests collected contained bison hair.”

In a follow-up 2007 study, Mr. Coppedge conducted an experiment on artificial nests by lining them with hair from bison. The results showed that nest predation was substantially higher on nests without bison hair when placed on the ground. Findings suggested the use of bison hair as a mask to control predation on birds.

Bison hair has valuable fiber characteristics that include softness, strength and heat retention. Now we can all participate in the return of the majestic bison. Wild birds shouldn’t have to fill their nests with cotton fibers or dryer lint! Give them BisonNest and let them thrive in comfort and style!
